Weather & Emergency-Related Changes to the School Schedule

Dallas School District will utilize our automated call and text system along with local television and radio stations to make parents and families aware in case of a delay, cancellation, early dismissal, or the use of a Flexible Instructional Day for weather or emergency-related changes to the school schedule.

School Delays

When the decision is made to delay the opening of school, typically by two hours, bus stops and start times will be delayed by two hours.

Early Dismissal

When the decision is made to dismiss schools, the time is governed by weather and the situation. Often, early dismissals for weather and emergency situations are as follows. However, the district may alter early dismissal times based on the weather or the emergency.

  • Secondary (Dallas High School and Dallas Middle School) will typically have a 12:00 PM dismissal.
  • Elementary (Dallas Intermediate School and Wycallis Primary School) will typically have a 1:00 PM dismissal.

Decisions to delay the start of school or dismiss school early also typically include transportation services to non-public schools.

School Closure

When conditions warrant, Dallas School District may close school. When the decision is made to close schools, all school-related activities are typically canceled. Snow days or emergency closures are made up in accordance with the school calendar.

Flexible Instructional Day

When a Flexible Instructional Day is announced, school buildings are closed and students participate online, via Google Classroom. Specific requirements and procedures are communicated by teachers and schools. Flexible Instructional Days are counted as school days and do not need to be made up.
