Winter Weather Reminders, Updates, and THANK YOU!

Please find below a few Dallas School District Winter Weather Updates and reminders:

Preparedness

The goal remains to have in person school on a regular schedule.  The evaluation to use a 2 hour delay or an FID is based on numerous factors.  Please review general information about the timing of those communications on our related webpage (link.)

Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs) and “Virtual Instruction”

Though districts are limited to five FIDs, we are able to change to virtual instruction as often as needed.  If we need to offer virtual instruction (for example, as a result of winter weather) we will do so.  Virtual instruction is exactly the same as an FID.  We may continue to use the term FID to avoid confusion.  Virtual instruction and FID is the same type of day.

Note too, if we were to use a “traditional snow day” with no instructional requirements, the first make-up day would be Monday, June 1, 2026.  Additional needed make-up days would follow.  The current scheduled last day of school is Friday, May 29, 2026.

Thank you!

We’ve had a run of winter weather and schedule changes.  Thank you to all parents and families for your flexibility and support as we recognize the challenge of managing online instruction and routine changes.  We are greatly appreciative of our faculty and staff for providing online instruction during FIDs and revising lesson plans when schedules change.  A big thank you to our administration and support staff including the custodial and maintenance department (all who report everyday, regardless of the weather) for working around the clock to remove snow and keep the campus safe and buildings warm.

A big “shout out” to our bus drivers – who arrive in the dark, on very cold mornings to ensure the buses are warm and also navigate routes in winter weather with precision focus on providing safe transportation to our students.

Pictured below are bus drivers enjoying a “pop up” hot chocolate and donut opportunity as thanks for enduring the weather for our students.
