Dallas Celebrates American Education Week

American Education Week will be celebrated across the country during the week of November 18, 2024.  A tradition dating back to 1921, the National Education Association describes American Education Week as a time set aside each year to honor all stakeholders in our Nation’s Schools.  Please accept our sincere gratitude and appreciation for contributing to our school district’s success and also your role in making education paramount in our country.

The “whole” of a school district is much greater than the sum of its parts.  American Education Week is a time to thank all of our contributors – our bus drivers, coaches, paraprofessionals, housekeepers, custodians, maintenance staff, secretaries and support staff, foodservice staff, faculty, administration and board of education for continuing to support Dallas programming, our students, and one another.

Our gratitude and recognition is also extended to our partners including mental health and behavioral support agencies, security officers, school resource officers, and our intermediate unit – all who contribute to meeting the needs of all students.

American Education Week is also a time to emphasize the importance of continued connectivity and collaboration with parents, families, and the greater community.  Several events during the week of November 18, 2024 will result in an opportunity for parent school visits including:

  • Wycallis and Dallas Intermediate: During American Education Week and throughout the month parents and families will be able to participate as Mystery Readers, Community Helpers, Guest Readers, assist with crafts, and participate in lunch with students.

  • Dallas Middle and High School:  Student Council representatives will provide parent and family tours on specific dates throughout the week with an emphasis on sharing student accomplishments.

  • Specific details will be shared via each building webpage/text message.

This week is also a time to acknowledge our most important stakeholders – our students.  We are incredibly grateful and fortunate to have students who consistently demonstrate enthusiasm and energy for education, respect and kindness, and a desire to participate in school activities within and beyond the school day.  Our care and support for our students remains central to all we do.

We look forward to seeing you at an American Education Week Event!
