Director of Technology Transition at DSD

DSD congratulates Director of Technology  Bill Gartrell, Director of Technology, as he will retire in June 2024.  Bill has served the Dallas School District for 16 years and has directed numerous advancements over his tenure.

Over the course of nearly two decades, Mr. Gartrell led significant initiatives including the transition to one-to-one devices, increased wireless connectivity, and converted us all to Google Suite.  During that time he also transitioned us to VoIP phones, built a state of the art campus wide surveillance system, and designed and built the technology in two constructed schools.  Bill’s unique combination of visionary leadership and hands-on work ethic are only overshadowed by his approachability, service to all, and kindness.

Bill will assist us in the coming months toward transitioning the department and continue to lead the department until June.

Following retirement, Bill hopes to spend time with family and travel to warmer places as frequently as possible.

Mr. Gartrell’s retirement will also allow us to welcome our newly appointed Director of Technology, Mr. Orell Gaynor III.

Mr. Gaynor is a Jim Thorpe Area graduate. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems from Susquehanna University and his Masters of Education in Instructional Technology from Kutztown University. He recently served as the Director of Technology & Information Services at the Jim Thorpe Area School District after previously being employed there for 15 years as a Technology Specialist. of 2022. Orell and wife, Megan reside in West Pittston with their dogs Mickey and Minnie, and cats Zelda and Scottie. Orell looks forward to joining the Dallas School District and serving as its new Director of Technology.

Mr. Gartrell and Mr. Gaynor are currently working together to provide a seamless transition for the Dallas Technology Department.
